During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, former Pakistani captain Rashid Latif believes that Team India bowler Mohammed Siraj might cause problems for Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne, who is currently in good form.

When the sides faced off Down Under during the 2020–21 series, Latif claimed that Labuschagne did not appear to be at ease in the presence of Siraj.

Mohammed Siraj Could Trouble Marnus Labuschagne: Rashid Latif

During the last Test series between the two sides, the Australian scored the most runs. He scored 426 runs in four games at an average of 53.25, including 1 century and 2 fifty-plus scores.

But Siraj, who played his first Test in the second game of the series, managed to get rid of him twice in three games while also causing the batter some difficulty with his speed and swing.

The top-ranked Test hitter, Marnus Labuschagne, has not yet participated in a Test game in India. Latif described the right-hander as a very talented player while speaking about them in a conversation on the “Caught Behind” YouTube channel:

“I feel Mohammed Siraj could trouble Marnus Labuschagne. He had dismissed the batter a couple of times in Australia as well and doesn’t look comfortable against him. But Labuschagne is a very good player and is in form as well.”

Marnus Labuschagne, who made his Test debut in 2018, has cemented his position as one of the pillars of the Australian batting order. He has amassed 3150 runs in 33 games at an average of 59.43, with 10 hundreds and 14 fifties.

Latif went on to evaluate the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s batting prowess for Australia. He identified the three hitters from whom he is anticipating many runs as being Steve Smith, Usman Khawaja, and Travis Head. The 54-year-old said:

“Smith, Khawaja and Travis Head are three players who could perform well, according to me. It’s not like [David] Warner and Labuschagne won’t perform. They are also very good batters.

“We would witness an excellent series because we are talking about the world’s top 10 players, be it from India or Australia. There are a lot of star performers on both sides.”

The opening Test for the four-game Border-Gavaskar Trophy will start on February 9 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. To maintain their chances of making the World Test Championship (WTC) final, India must win the series by a substantial margin.
