Former India player Sunil Gavaskar feels that Shubman Gill will be the opening partner for Rohit Sharma for the next year years. His words arrive after Shubman Gill smacked a century in the recent IND vs AUS 4th Test and showed commendable batting form in the past few series.
Shubman Gill became the youngest batsman to score an ODI double century when he smacked a double ton against New Zealand earlier this year. After KL Rahul failed to perform in the first two Tests against Australia, Gill was picked as an opener and he shattered a century in IND vs AUS 4th Test.

While speaking on Sports Tak, former India opener Sunil Gavaskar said that with the kind of form Shubman Gill has shown in recent series, it looks like he has cemented his place as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner for the next few years.
“He’s only 23, he’s young and with the kind of form he has shown in pretty much all the formats, scoring centuries in ODis, T20Is and Test, it appears that Rohit Sharma’s partner for the next few years is sealed,” Gavaskar told Sports Tak.

In 2023 so far, Gill has played 2 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 6 T20Is. He has mustered 154 runs in 3 Test innings with 1 century. In ODIs, he has slammed 567 runs at an average of 113.40, smashing 3 centuries and 1 fifty. In T20Is, he has piled up 202 runs at an average of 40.40 so far, hitting 1 century.
Hence, Gill has proved that he is an emerging opener for India. He is also part of the upcoming IND vs AUS ODI series. The series will observe three matches on March 17, 19, and 22.
