IND vs AUS: ‘That Was A Team Of Champions’- Saba Karim Gives No-Nonsense Verdict On Border-Gavaskar Trophy Hype. Indian Cricket Team would be booming with confidence after defeating New Zealand & Sri Lanka in the white ball leg. The hosts though would be aware that Australia will be a completely different ball game. The mighty Aussies have been on a roll after thrashing West Indies & South Africa.

Australia hasn’t won Test Series in India since 2004 and they haven’t won the Border-Gavaskar trophy since the 2014-15 series in Australia. Skipper Pat Cummins will have a strenuous task on his hands. Under Cummins’ captaincy, the Aussies had won in Pakistan & squared the Test Series in Sri Lanka.

Saba Karim on Australia

Saba Karim was having an interaction with India  News and was asked whether the current Australian team gives a glimpse of the 2001 side. “Comparing this Australian team to the one that toured in 2001 is just hype by the media and their former cricketers to put pressure on India. That was a team of champions, while there are some here who are struggling for form. Except for Steve Smith and Travis Head, they don’t have many who are in top form. Warner is short of runs.” said Saba Karim.

“I agree Australia have a strong pace attack, but they have just one quality spinner in Nathan Lyon. Just bringing a whole bunch of spinners in India doesn’t get the job done. You need to have the ability to bowl long spells and create that penetration. I don’t see that quality in this attack.” he added.

Steep Road Ahead for Australia

As mentioned by Saba Karim, Australia doesn’t have a quality spinner present after Nathan Lyon which would put immense pressure on him. There are chances that Aussies may play with 3 fast bowlers despite conditions favoring spinners and at the same time they also have the services of part-time spinner Travis Head.

A lot will depend on how Marnus Labuschagne fares as this would be his first Test tour of India. The batter stood tall in the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy. It won’t be wrong to say that the team which scores 400-odd runs will have an upper hand in the match.
