Steve Smith won the toss as Australia opted to bat first in Motera. They are playing an unchanged side as Smith hoped that the pitch will play a lot better than the previous three Test matches.

“We are going to have a bat, playing with the same team. Looks like a nice surface, does look like a good wicket. The guys performed well last week. We’ll wait and see (whether he will lead Australia in India again” Smith said at the toss.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also said that he too would have opted to bat first had he won the toss. He further said that he is impressed by the first look of the pitch and hoped that it stays the same across five days. Mohammed Siraj is not a part of the Indian XI as Shami made a comeback into the side.

Australia won the third Test and pulled back the series at 2-1. In the process, they also cemented their place in the WTC final. India, on the other hand, needs to win the fourth Test to qualify for the WTC final. If they lose this Test match, they will have to wait for the result of New Zealand vs Sri Lanka Test series. A 2-0 series win for Sri Lanka will take them to the WTC final, knocking India out of the race if they lose the fourth Test.
