Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis’ Sri Lanka tour came to an end due to an injury after suffering a side strain during the first ODI match against Sri Lanka, which was played at the Pallekele Stadium. He is the latest injury casualty for Australia on this tour which saw the visitors winning the T20I series 2-1 and ending up victors in the 1st ODI as well.

Australia is already without the services of Mitchell Marsh who has a calf injury and is not expected to be available until the third ODI at the earliest and with Stoinis being ruled out of the remainder of the tour, as he suffered a side strain while he was batting during the first ODI at the Pallekele Stadium, leaves Australia without a fully fit seam-bowling allrounder.

Cameron Green is being held back from bowling in order for the Cricket Australia to manage the young Test all-rounder’s workload.

Apart from Stoinis and Marsh, Australia has also lost the services of Ashton Agar for the remainder of the ODI series, who also hurt his side during Tuesday evening’s match. He will remain in Sri Lanka with the one-day squad but his focus looks set to shift towards regaining fitness for the two-Test series in Galle.

Matthew Kuhnemann And Travis Head Called Up For Remainder Of Two ODIs

With Australia suffering so many injuries, with Mitchell Starc already out with a finger injury, it has become a horror tour injury-wise for the Aussies, who have now had six players go down in less than a fortnight.

Matthew Kuhnemann has been called up to the ODI squad and will be joined by Travis Head, both of whom are currently playing for Australia A against Sri Lanka. They will be replaced for the final two days of the four-day game against Sri Lanka A by Jimmy Pierson and Tanveer Sangha.

With Agar out and Adam Zampa not on tour, Mitchell Swepson will be the lead spinner and could be joined by his Queensland teammate Kuhnemann in the XI if conditions suit in Pallekele. Kuhnemann is a left-arm spinner, the 25-year-old was last season’s leading Sheffield Shield spinner.

Impressing during the ODIs could see him stay on for the Tests if Agar is not fit in time for the two-Test campaign in Galle beginning later this month.
