BBL: Sydney Thunder And Melbourne Stars Team Members Test COVID-19 Positive- Reports

Cricket Australia’s Big Bash League has been hit with a massive blow after additional COVID-19 cases were found in Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars camps.

Four players from Sydney Thunder while seven players and eight staff members returned COVID-19 positive.

BBL: Sydney Thunder’s match against Adelaide Strikers in doubt

According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, the entire Sydney Thunder squad underwent PCR Tests on Thursday following a positive rapid antigen test. A spokesperson of the franchise said that they are working with CA and South Australia health officials for their clash against Strikers.

Sydney Thunder is scheduled to play against Adelaide Strikers on Friday at the Adelaide Oval. However, there is no confirmation about the game going ahead tonight.

Melbourne Stars COVID-19 positive members to miss upcoming games in New Year

Meanwhile, all the members of Melbourne Stars, who tested positive for COVID-19, are under isolation for seven days as required by Victoria government health guidelines.

None of the members from Stars will be allowed to participate in their back to back games in New Year against Perth Scorchers (January 2) and Melbourne Renegades (January 3).

Sydney Thunder is currently placed in the fourth spot on the points table with 13 points, having won three games and lost three after playing six matches.

On the other hand, Glenn Maxwell-led Melbourne Stars are lagging behind their competitors with 10 points from six games and occupy sixth place in the points table.

Australia is seeing a surge of Covid cases as South Australia player Travis Head returned positive for the dreadful virus and will miss the fourth Ashes Test against England in Sydney.

Perth Scorchers pair of Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis along with Melbourne Renegades skipper Nic Maddinson have been named as additional covers for the fourth Test in Sydney.

On Thursday, the match between Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers was called off after one of Stars’ members turned positive.

On the second day of the MCG Test, seven cases- three support staff and four family members were detected in the England camp.
