The 30-year-old Australia National Cricket Team leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who represents Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL), attempted to run-out Melbourne Renegades’ 28-year-old bowling all-rounder Tom Rogers in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23, which is the ongoing twelfth season of the league.

The happening occurred in the 27th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23 between Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Tuesday, January 3.

On the 5th ball of the 20th over of the first innings, the Melbourne Stars captain Adam Zampa saw Tom Rogers backing up too far and before releasing the ball from his hand he turned around and then took the bails off at the non-striker’s end. Rogers, who was well short of the crease, clearly looked disappointed after the run-out appeal.

The decision went to the third umpire and he declared it as not out despite Rogers being far away from the bowling crease and said that the bowler had his arm go past the vertical. Notably, the third umpire felt that Zampa completed his bowling action without letting go of the ball and hence the dismissal was not justified.

Notably, Rogers would have been declared out by the third umpire if Zampa had run the batter out without completing his bowling action. The run-out at the non-striker’s end, which is referred to as Mankading by many, was moved from ‘Unfair Play’ to ‘Run-out’ section by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in March 2022.

Talking about the match between Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades, the Adam Zampa-led side won the toss and invited the Aaron Finch-led side to bat first. Melbourne Renegades were able to post 141/7 while batting first. Chasing the target, Melbourne Stars looked in trouble as they lost 4 wickets inside first 10 overs.
