Trinbago Knight Riders will take on St. Lucia Kings in the seventh match of the CPL 2021 on Sunday. TKR would be happy to secure a win in their last game after suffering a defeat in the opener against Guyana Amazon Warriors.
Trinbago Knight Riders bowled out Barbados Royals on 122 in the last game. Isuru Udana went through Royal’s top-order, cleaning the top three batsmen for 42 runs in 7 overs. Shai Hope and Azam Khan then joined hands to lead the recovery.
They took the total to 74 before Shai Hope lost his wicket while trying to hit a big maximum off Akeal Hosein. Azam Khan hit a couple more sixes before he became the fifth person to get out, courtesy of another great ball from Isuru Udana. Wickets fell at quick succession afterward as Barbados could only manage 122.
Trinbago Knight Riders, once again, didn’t start well with the bat. The top three comprising of Lendl Simmons, Sunil Narine, and Colin Munro went back to the pavilion inside 5 overs, thanks to a sensational spell from M Amir. T Seifert hit three boundaries before becoming the fourth victim.
Much to Knight Riders’ delight, Kieron Pollard played a captaincy knock and took the team out of trouble. He joined hands with Dinesh Ramdin and stitched an unbeaten 87-run partnership to help them secure their first win of the season. Pollard scored 58 runs off 30 balls, while Ramdin amassed 29 off 31 balls.
On the other hand, St. Lucia Kings had a forgettable outing in their opening game of the season against Jamaica Tallawahs. All the top five batsmen made significant contributions with the bat as Jamaica amassed 255 runs in just 120 deliveries. Andre Russell notched a half-century off just 14 deliveries.
St. Lucia had no answers to that. The first three deliveries of the second innings were dealt with boundaries, however, wickets fell quickly after that. Skipper Du Plessis got out without opening his account, while Fletcher and Chase managed 9 and 11 respectively.
Tim David and Wahab Riaz stitched a partnership, however, the target was always going to be far from the reach. David went on to score a half-century, which would give him confidence ahead of the coming games in the tournament.
