2022 was the year that saw two major global events being played in the T20I format, the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. Both the events were a great success and the intensity with which the tournaments were played was a class apart as well.

However, in between the global T20I events, the ICC managed to squeeze in a few ODI matches as well. Various teams played bilateral ODI series and India played a few as well.

They played three against West Indies to start the year, followed by another one against Zimbabwe. Just before the T20 World Cup, India played another ODI series against South Africa coupled with a T20I series as well as a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma skipped all three ODI series. They only played the one against England in June-July. The likes of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya were given breaks in between as well. Kohli, Rohit, and Pant played the last and final ODI series against Bangladesh to cap off 2022. In this article, we take a look at the three best Indian players in 2022.

3 Best Indian Players In ODIs In 2022

Shreyas Iyer (724 Runs In 17 ODIs, Avg-55.69, SR-91.52)

In the absence of Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer made the most of his chances across formats. He batted mostly at number three or four and scored the most runs in the ODI format.

Overall he scored one century and six fifties in the format and has now cemented his place in India’s ODI side. With reports of the team management looking beyond the likes of Kohli and Rohit, Iyer’s rise is a blessing in disguise for India. Overall he scored 1609 runs in 2022 across formats.

Shubman Gill (638 Runs In 12 ODIs Avg-70.88, SR-102.57)

Gill played 12 ODIs this year for India and stamped his authority as the third opener for the side in the format. Gill scored four fifties and a century this year and remained unbeaten on three occasions.

He opened with Shikhar Dhawan in most of the games with Rohit Sharma being rested due to injury concerns. Now with the management willing to look beyond Dhawan, Gil might well be the first-choice opener for India in next year’s World Cup.

Shikhar Dhawan (688 Runs In 22 ODIs, Avg-34.40, SR-74.22)

Despite scoring 688 runs in 2022, Dhawan has been dropped from the Indian team for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. There are also reports that the management is looking for other options and that Dhawan’s ODI career might well be over.

The southpaw has been the most consistent batter for India in ODIs for a long time now still his snub from the Sri Lanka series has got many confused. The rise of Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill might have forced the management to think along those lines. The southpaw is also aging 37 at the moment and that might have dampened his case as well.
