Virat Kohli resigned as Test skipper of India on Sunday (January 15), thus pulling down the curtains on his captaincy role across the three formats. Earlier in November last year, Virat Kohli had left the T20I captaincy. Since BCCI wanted the same player to lead the team in both ODI and T20Is, the board later asked Virat Kohli to step down as ODI skipper as well.
Now Rohit Sharma, who currently owns the leadership of ODI and T20Is, is highly expected to become India’s new Test skipper. However, a few other names are also popular to get the captain’s role. Under Virat Kohli, there were few players who didn’t manage to rise in the Test format. Here we talk about 3 Indian players who couldn’t flourish in Tests under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.

3 Indian Players Who Couldn’t Flourish In Tests Under Virat Kohli’s Captaincy
3. Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya is the first player on this list. During a brief period from 2017 to 2018, Hardik Pandya was a crucial all-rounder in the Test team as well. The right-handed batsman was also part of India’s tour of England and South Africa in 2018. He also gave a few incredible performances with the bat and ball. However, he could not attract much limelight in the longer format consistently.
Later, players like Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed Pandya’s all-rounder spot in the Test side. Now, Pandya is completely outside selectors’ vision in Test format. So Hardik Pandya is one player whose Test career couldn’t flourish under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is another player whose Test career could not flourish under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. Kumar was part of many Test tours in the past, like the Australia tour in 2015, the England tour in 2014, the West Indies tour in 2018, and the South Africa tour in 2018.
However, post 2018, Bhuvneshwar Kumar failed to make it into the Test side on a permanent basis. Now, the right-arm pacer is a regular pacer in white-ball cricket. However, his name never pops up when we talk about Test cricket.

1. Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan is the third player on this list. Although we only see Shikhar Dhawan playing in ODIs and T20I currently, there was a time when the left-handed batsman was a popular choice of opener for India in Tests. For instance, Dhawan has played Test series on almost all foreign soil like Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh, etc.

The 36-year-old last played a Test series against England in September 2018. Thereafter, he did not get more chances to play in Tests. The rise of Test openers like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill among others also hampered Dhawan’s chances in the Test team. Hence, Shikhar Dhawan is another Indian player whose Test career couldn’t flourish under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.
