5 Decisions Taken By Rohit Sharma And Rahul Dravid That Backfired For Team India In 2022

When Jasprit Bumrah was not available for Asia Cup 2022, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid went ahead with picking Avesh Khan as one of the pacers. The decision totally backfired as the right-arm pacer failed completely in the first two games and was ruled out of the tournament with fitness issues.

Avesh Khan played in 2 games and conceded runs at an economy rate of 12.0. He managed to get 2 wickets but at a high bowling average of 36.0. Later, Deepak Chahar replaced Avesh Khan in the India squad.

Another bad decision by Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid was picking only two pacers in some games in Asia Cup 2022. In the super 12 round, the duo opt to go ahead with only 2 primary pacers in the playing XI.

This totally backfired as India failed to defend decent totals against Pakistan and Sri Lanka while bowling. The two defeats also led to India’s elimination from Asia Cup 2022 final.

3. Benching Yuzvendra Chahal in ICC T20 World Cup 2022

Yuzvendra Chahal was part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 squad but he was benched in all the games. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was another spinner in the squad, played in all 6 games.

However, in the semi-final match against England, the Indian bowling unit faced a humiliating performance as they were not able to pick a single wicket in the match. Many experts said that benching Yuzvendra Chahal in all the games was a big mistake by the team.

Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma also allowed Rishabh Pant to open in some of the games while testing him as an opener. However, the decision totally backfired as Pant was not able to score in any match as an opener.

Moreover, Pant has been playing in the middle order since the start. In IPL too, he plays in the middle order. Changing his batting position as an opener did not work out for India and it was a big mistake by the decision-makers.

When Ravindra Jadeja was unavailable for ICC T20 World Cup 2022 due to injury, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid went ahead with Axar Patel as a replacement. The left-arm spinner did a good job in a T20I series against Australia ahead of T20 World Cup 2022.

However, Axar Patel totally failed on Australian pitches during the tournament and emerged quite expensive. The left-handed batsman got out for single-digit scores in crucial games and bowled at an economy of 8.62 while getting 3 wickets in 5 games.
