Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar retired from international cricket in 2013, but still, his record of 100 international hundreds is intact. He retired with 40 ODI centuries and 51 Test tons breaking and making several batting records in the process. He is considered the best batsman in international cricket to date. People still draw parallels between Sir Don Bradman and the modern batting legend.

Sachin Tendulkar played 200 Test matches scoring 15921 runs with 51 hundreds and 68 fifties. He also scored six double-hundreds in his Test career. He played 463 ODIs scoring 18426 at an average of 44.83 with 49 hundreds and 96 fifties. He was the first batter to score 200* in ODI cricket against South Africa in 2010.

Having retired with unparallel numbers in international cricket, Sachin Tendulkar joined Mumbai Indians as the mentor of the side after captaining them for the first five IPL seasons. He scored 2234 runs in 78 IPL games and retired after Mumbai won their first IPL title in 2013.

The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni took over the mantle of Indian cricket after his retirement. While Dhoni retired after the 2019 ODI World Cup, the likes of Kohli and Rohit are still very much the pillars of the Indian cricket team.

With India hosting the 2023 ODI World Cup at home, the focus will be on the two superstars of Indian cricket and how they build a team toward winning their first ICC trophy since 2013. Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at five players who can break Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 100 international hundreds.

5 Players Who Can Break Sachin Tendulkar’s Record Of 100 International Centuries

Virat Kohli

After going through more than three years without scoring an international century, Virat Kohli scored two international centuries in 202. He scored his maiden T20I century against Afghanistan and his 44th ODI ton against Bangladesh. The two centuries came in quick succession after a long drought in between. Taking ODIs, Tests, and T20Is together, Kohli has scored 72 international hundreds.

Given Kohli’s hunger to score runs and his willingness to stay fit, he can play international cricket till 40 if he wants to. His form will be key to getting to that milestone. He is on a break and will return to the Indian squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

The Pakistan skipper had a fabulous 2022 across formats for his country. He scored 1184 Test runs, 679 ODI runs, and 735 T20I runs in 2022. Since becoming the captain of the team across formats, Babar opens the batting in T20Is and bats in the middle-order in Test and ODI cricket.

Having made his debut in 2015, he has already played 47 Tests, 92 ODIs, and 99 T20Is securing a tally of 28 international hundreds at the age of just 28. With age on his side, he is certainly in the race to challenge Tendulkar’s tally of a century of centuries. The Pakistan skipper will have to be in top form to get the remaining tons.

David Warner

Aging 36, the southpaw sits on 45 international centuries at the moment. He has scored 19 ODI tons, 25 Test tons, and one T20I century. While challenging Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of hundreds is an incredible achievement in itself, Warner is perhaps the only Australian batter in the modern era who can get close to it.

Like Kohli, he is also hungry for scoring runs and plays with his heart on his sleeve. Since his comeback after being suspended for the Sandpapergate scandal, Warner has given it all for Australian cricket.

Former England skipper Joe Root is the next batter in this likely list of batters who might break Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 100 international hundreds. He has scored 28 Test tons and 16 ODI centuries which makes it 44 international centuries so far. His Test career has been on an uprise graph since 2021.

There have been four years in his Test career where he scored over 1000 runs in a calendar year. His most successful year in Test cricket was in 2021 when he scored 1708 runs in 15 Test matches. He has been one of the most successful ODI batters for England as well with 16 Test tons. Aging 32 at the moment, he has at least five to six years of cricket left in him.

Steve Smith

He scored four centuries in the format in the last three years and has been contributing heavily to Test cricket. He has scored 30 Test tons and 12 in ODIs taking his tally to 42 international centuries. He is 33 at the moment and is expected to play at least five more years at the highest level.
