A viral social media post claiming that former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist insulted MS Dhoni while calling Virat Kohli the greatest chaser of all time is false. There is no credible evidence that Gilchrist made the alleged comments or criticized Dhoni’s limited-overs record.
Kohli has long been regarded as one of the best ODI chasers, while Dhoni also has an outstanding record in successful run chases. Gilchrist, meanwhile, has publicly praised Dhoni in the past, calling him “the first MS Dhoni” rather than comparing him negatively with others.
Did Adam Gilchrist Insult MS Dhoni While Praising Virat Kohli? Fact-Check
A viral post claimed Adam Gilchrist called MS Dhoni an inferior run-chaser while naming Virat Kohli the greatest chaser in cricket history. However, the quote is fabricated, and the screenshot is from the Stick to Cricket podcast. During Episode 23 of the Stick to Cricket podcast, Dhoni was not mentioned during the discussion.
Kohli was mentioned only briefly while the panel discussed pitch conditions in Perth. The hosts referred to his century at the Optus Stadium during the most recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Gilchrist did not criticize Dhoni or compare the two Indian stars during that episode.

Adam Gilchrist Once Settled MS Dhoni vs Pat Cummins and Virat Kohli vs Rohit Sharma Debate
Gilchrist previously discussed Indian cricket during verified interviews. In a rapid-fire segment with Sports Yaari in June 2025, he was asked to choose between several major players. When asked to pick an all-format captain between MS Dhoni and Pat Cummins, Gilchrist backed Cummins.
The former Australian wicketkeeper was then asked to choose between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as an all-format batter. Gilchrist selected Kohli because of his consistency across formats over a long period. He stated that Kohli had maintained his level throughout his international career.
“I think Virat, just because of a sustained period he showed it across all formats,” Gilchrist explained.
During the same interview, Gilchrist picked Sachin Tendulkar over Ricky Ponting and Brian Lara as an all-format batter. He chose Kumar Sangakkara over Rishabh Pant as a Test wicketkeeper-batter, calling him a “banker,” and selected Glenn McGrath ahead of Wasim Akram and Curtly Ambrose.
Adam Gilchrist Picks Yashasvi Jaiswal as India's Next Superstar
Gilchrist also picked Yashasvi Jaiswal as the Indian player most likely to become the next global superstar. He chose Jaiswal over Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, pointing to the young opener’s hunger, resilience and aggressive approach as key reasons behind his selection.
The former Australia vice-captain also praised Jaiswal for his performances against Australia and his battle with Mitchell Starc. Gilchrist noted that Jaiswal responded strongly under pressure and produced a dominant performance in one Test.
“I think Jaiswal. I think he's shown us he's had a little period of having to learn a bit more and dig it a bit deeper, but I sense that the hunger is there,” Gilchrist said.
Gilchrist also predicted a strong India-Australia rivalry in the coming years. He backed Cameron Green as Australia's next superstar if he stays fit, while noting that experienced players such as Steve Smith continue to perform at the highest level.
