Australian spinner Adam Zampa has hit out at former Australian captain Michael Clarke and other cricketers who for a long time have been unnecessarily criticizing the performance of the Australian cricket team.
Several former Australian cricketers like Clarke and Matthew Hayden had been overtly critical of the performance of the national side. The responses perhaps came after Australia failed to get into the knockout stages of the T20 World Cup. Australia were beaten by Afghanistan in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup. Another defeat to India saw them get eliminated from the tournament.
There was also criticism from former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson who felt that there was no need for a farewell Test for David Warner who did not perform decently in his last season in the whites for Australia.
Adam Zampa Responds To Ex-Australia Stars' Criticism
Speaking on the Final Word podcast, Adam Zampa didn’t mince his words while answering the brutal assessments of his teammates by past cricketers.
"The way that I see it is, when ex-players come out, it’s almost like they’re talking about it on a big WhatsApp group or something, like 'let’s all back each other up and say the same s**t'," Zampa said. "There was a bit of time there where people were going really hard for us, and for an Australian cricketer looking forward to what I think I’m going to be like when I’m done … I’m like, ‘what are they doing ..." said Zampa.
"Just be thoughtful and actually try and help, and understand what it’s like to be a professional cricketer … you f***ing did it already, so why are you being such a f***wit about it," Adam Zampa further said asking the former cricketers to be rational about what they say about the national cricket team.
This is not the first time that Adam Zampa has hit out at former Australian cricketers for their unnecessary criticism of the team. Previously after Australia won the ODI World Cup in India last year, Zampa hit out at Michael Clarke who criticised the team after their early losses.
Australia lost their first match to India in Chennai, followed by another defeat in Lucknow against South Africa. For a while, they were lingering at the bottom of the points table, having not opened their account. Clarke criticised how the Aussie batters struggled against the South African spinners saying that they would even struggle more against the sub-continental spinners.
However, Australia and Adam Zampa turned their campaign around rather dramatically winning nine games in a row to win the ODI World Cup for the sixth time. They defeated India in the final who had been unbeaten in the lead-up to the final as they brought out their best game on the night. Adam Zampa finished with 23 wickets, the second-highest in the tournament, at an average of 22.39 and an economy of 5.36.
