England fans would be hoping that Moeen Ali is fit & available for selection for the 2nd Test Match at the iconic Lord’s on 28th June. Rehan Ahmed, the young spinner has been called as a cover for Moeen Ali.
Head coach Brendon McCullum & skipper Brendon McCullum can’t afford to make the same mistake of taking Australia lightly. All of a sudden, there have been questions raised over the team’s dynamics as the side couldn’t wrap up the game despite being in the ascendancy during the run chase.

Joe Root had a terrific outing as he not only smashed a ton but bowled effective spells and took the priced wicket of Alex Carey. The surface at Lord’s is expected to be a competitive one unlike the opening Test match where bowlers had to toil a lot.
Australia on the other hand would be aiming to make the most of the winning momentum. Skipper Pat Cummins showed that their WTC 2021-23 final triumph wasn’t a fluke, the skipper stood tall from one end and play a match-winning knock of 44 runs in 73 balls and struck 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Moeen Ali should not play unless he has healed- Monty Panesar
Monty Panesar wrote in his column for the Telegraph and stated that the management should not make Moeen Ali play unless his injury is healed and pointed out that the spinner must follow a routine of using surgical spirit to help heal and harden the wound.
“England cannot afford to be in that position in the second Test and, for that reason, Moeen should not play unless he has healed. I’m sure doing just that will be his primary focus between the matches,” said Monty Panesar.
Managing Moeen Ali’s workload will also play a key part in his recovery- Monty Panesar
Monty Panesar said that the management will have to manage the workload of Moeen Ali and pointed out that Moeen should bowl 10-15 overs on the net to see whether his injured finger is ready to take the workload.
“Even though Moeen has already sustained an injury, he should follow the same routine of using surgical spirit to help heal and harden the wound,” said Monty Panesar.
“Managing his workload will also play a key part in his recovery. If it was me, I would not have attempted to bowl until Sunday to give the finger some time to recover. Then, on the three days prior to the Test, I would attempt to bowl between 10 and 15 overs on the net each day to see if the finger is ready to take on the workload that will be required on a dry pitch,” he stated.

“That will allow England to make an informed decision on selection. England will be a stronger side at Lord’s if they have Moeen Ali in it. But that will require his finger to heal, which is much easier said than done in just a week,” he added.
