England suffered a narrow defeat in the 1st Test match. Joe Root was seen bowling at the back end of the innings and was quite effective. Joe Root took the priced wicket of Alex Carey but that wasn’t enough for England to win the match.

Nathan Lyon & Pat Cummins showed nerves of steel as they stitched a match-winning partnership of 55 runs in 72 balls. The duo frustrated the bowlers with their sheer defence and were quite keen on rotating the strike.

England will have to reconsider their approach as the batters in the 2nd innings couldn’t capitalize on the starts which hurt the team a lot as a target in excess of 320 would have been quite competitive.

Australia can’t afford to get complacent as England would come well-prepared for the contest. It looks unlikely that Ben Foakes would be drafted into the playing 11 despite Jonny Bairstow not being at his best behind the wickets.

I am always ready for a chance to take Test wickets – Joe Root

Joe Root was having an interaction with BBC Sport and stated that he is always ready to take Test wickets. Joe Root was quite optimistic that they can make a comeback in the Ashes Series despite suffering a heart-wrenching defeat in the opening Test match.

“It’s great when you get a chance to contribute, you want to be involved and step up in the big moments. I’m always ready for a chance to take Test wickets,” said Joe Root.

“We just have to go and do it again at Lord’s and for three more Tests after that. Everyone should strap in and expect the same from us. That’s what we’re about as a team. We are going to challenge and compete. We’re in for a hell of a Test series here,” he added.
