Ashes 2023: "Nathan Lyon Is Basically Out Of The Ashes" - Peter Brukner

Australia’s premier spinner Nathan Lyon went off the field after a calf injury. According to former Australian team doctor Peter Brukner, the injury to Nathan Lyon is quite serious and could rule him out of the ongoing series.

Nathan Lyon has been an integral part of the side. He can also contribute with the bat in hand as the veteran along with Pat Cummins took the team over the finish line in the opening Test match at Edgbaston.

England’s star batter Harry Brook would be aiming to make the most of the start. Harry Brook has scored 45 runs in 51 balls and can be seen quite attacking in approach. He along with Ben Stokes will have to be smart in the morning session of Day 3.

Australia skipper Pat Cummins on the other hand will be aware of the fact that now pacers will have to bowl longer spells in the absence of Lyon. The flamboyant all-rounder Cameron Green was taken to the cleaners and would be aiming to get a better performance.

I don’t think we will see Nathan Lyon again this series – Peter Brukner

Peter Brukner, the former Australian cricket team doctor was seen interacting with Sydney Morning Herald. Peter Brukner stated that the calf injury of Nathan Lyon looks terrible and was quite unsure whether the spinner can be back in the action for the series.

“He’s basically out of the Ashes, I’d think. I don’t think we’ll see him again in this series. It’s a disaster. It clearly was quite a severe one from the amount of disability he had straight away. It’s probably a pretty significant injury, I’d think,” said Peter Brukner.

“The likelihood is it’s a significant muscle tear of the gastrocnemius – the bulky calf muscle. That will be associated with a significant amount of bleeding,” he added.
