Former Pakistan cricketer Abdul Razzaq has spoken about why there are no India-Pakistan bilateral tournaments in recent times. It has been more than a decade that India and Pakistan have only been playing against each other in ICC and Asia Cup tournaments.
Both teams will face each other in the upcoming Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup later this year. India and Pakistan are placed in the same group in the Asia Cup. The IND-PAK clash in the World Cup will be held on October 15.

Meanwhile, Abdul Razzaq made an interesting comment on why both countries are not playing bilateral series currently. The way he spoke, he sounded willing to resume the bilateral ties between both nations. Razzaq claimed India didn’t play Pakistan much since 1997-98 because the former would largely be at the receiving end of losses.

From 1997-98, They Didn’t Play Much Against Us Because We Were Too Good: Abdul Razzaq
“We share mutual respect and friendship. There’s only Indian team that doesn’t play against Pakistan. From 1997-98, they didn’t play much against us because we were too good, India always used to lose. Now, situation has changed, we are in 2023, but we have to change our thinking. No team is big or small, the performance on the day matters,” Razzaq told EHCricket.
“Both teams are good. You can’t say Pakistan team is weak. You see the Ashes series, can you point out which team is better? The team which performs wins, as simple as that. We have to get out of this and play matches, series against each other,” Razzaq further said.
The last time Pakistan visited India was during the 2016 T20 World Cup. India defeated Pakistan by six wickets at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. There are reports that India and Pakistan might face each other five times this year including in a potential semi-final clash in Kolkata in the World Cup.
