As the Asia Cup 2025 is just a couple of weeks away, political fire has erupted over India’s scheduled clash with Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has urged the Indian government to block the live telecast of the India vs Pakistan match across all platforms, keeping in mind the national interest and public sentiments.
Chaturvedi slammed the government’s decision to allow the India vs Pakistan game in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. She recalled India’s swift counter-terror operation, Operation Sindoor, and the delegations’ world tour to showcase their stand against terror.
Priyanka Chaturvedi blasts ‘sportsmanship’ excuse, calls India vs Pakistan match a moral failure
The Shiv Sena (UBT) MP emphasized that going ahead with the India vs Pakistan cricket match undermines the sacrifices of the armed forces and the nation’s stand against terrorism.
She also criticized both the BCCI and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for prioritizing the tournament over moral responsibility. Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote in her letter to the Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, “A parliamentary delegation was sent globally carrying the message of zero tolerance to terrorism, of which I was a part too, and this decision of GOI to go ahead with cricket matches against (Pakistan) is totally unacceptable to me and my conscience.”
Chaturvedi felt that framing the India vs Pakistan match as a matter of “sportsmanship” is a poor excuse to ignore how the neighboring country sponsors terror. She said, “Hiding behind the garb of sportsman spirit to allow the match to happen lacks the moral courage to stand against the terror nation.”

She urged the Ministry of Electronics and IT to block the live streaming of the India vs Pakistan match across all platforms.
Chaturvedi said in her letter, “Keeping the view of national interest and public sentiment, it is necessary that MeitY blocks the live streaming of the India-Pakistan match across all OTT platforms, websites, and apps. Since you also hold the charge of the Information & Broadcasting Ministry, I urge you to block broadcasters from telecasting the match live.”
The Rajya Sabha MP also mentioned how several nations have long chosen principles over sports and showed that the sporting events are not above national interest.

Priyanka Chaturvedi calls profits from India vs Pakistan match ‘cursed money’
She cited the example of South Africa’s boycott during apartheid, Olympic boycotts, and even Pakistan refusing to play the Hockey Asia Cup 2025 in India. Pakistan had also not played the Asia Cup in India in 1990-91 due to security.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) MP noted that any profits earned from the India vs. Pakistan match would be “cursed money,” as it would be linked to the sacrifices of soldiers and victims of terror attacks.
She signed off by saying, “However, the stubbornness to go ahead with promoting this match by BCCI to make money will in truth be not just blood money but cursed money, as it carries the curse of the coffins of Pahalgam terror attack victims and our men in uniform.”
