The Asia Cup 2023 is going to be played in the 50-over format as the 2022 edition was played in the T20 format due to the T20 WC 2022. There is still uncertainty regarding Asia Cup 2023 as BCCI has made it clear that they won’t travel to Pakistan for the tourney.

PCB hasn’t hosted Asia Cup since 2008. BCCI Secretary & Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Jay Shah wants the championship to be held at a neutral venue. Pakistan couldn’t win the Asia Cup 2022 despite winning crucial moments of the match.

Najam Sethi was having an interaction with media and was asked about Asia Cup 2023. “It is a major development that the ACC the board will meet on 4th February in Bahrain and matters relating to the Asia Cup will be discussed. There will also be a ICC meeting in March and I don’t want to go public with what negotiations I had with ACC members in Dubai or what I plan to do, argue or discuss at the coming meetings. But yes definitely India and Pakistan cricket relations are important,” said Najam Sethi.

PCB Chairman Najam Sethi also made a statement on the Champions Trophy 2025. “Hosting the Asia Cup this year is very important and India sending its team is a big issue because it will obviously have repercussions on the Champions Trophy being held in Pakistan in 2025,” said Najam Sethi.

It looks like now that ICC must intervene in this issue and find a way out of this as India vs Pakistan rivalry is considered to be one of the greatest. It would be interesting to see what stance BCCI takes as they had said that sending a team over to Pakistan is a total government decision and as we all know both nations don’t have good relations.
