Asian Games 2023: Harmanpreet Kaur Only Allowed To Play Final; India Get Direct Entry Into Quarter-finals

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team has been banned by the ICC for two matches after her misconduct on the cricket field in the third ODI against Bangladesh.
She broke the stumps expressing her displeasure at the unfair umpiring by the onfield umpires. She went further and asked the umpires to join the Bangladesh women’s team in the post-series photo session implying that they had a hand in their team drawing the series.
Meanwhile, the Indian women’s team skipper can only play in the Asian Games 2023 if her team reach the final of the mega event starting September 23 in Hangzhou. Men and women’s teams from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka will be also participating in that event in China.

Due to her two-match ban, Harmanpreet will be ineligible to play in the quarter and semi-final. She can only play if her team reach the final as explained above.
The Indian men’s team have also got a direct entry into the quarter-final on the basis of its ICC T20 ranking on June 1. The men’s event will comprise 18 teams while the women’s event will have 14 teams
The women’s competition will start on September 19 and end with the gold and bronze medal matches on September 26.
VVS Laxman, Roger Binny To Question Harmanpreet Kaur
Meanwhile, BCCI President Roger Binny and head of cricket VVS Laxman will question Harmanpreet after her latest antics against Bangladesh in the final ODI. The same was confirmed by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.
“Roger Binny and Laxman will question Harmanpreet on her outbursts during the third ODI against Bangladesh,” Shah told reporters in New Delhi.
India won the T20I seris 2-1. Bangladesh then bounced back to level the ODI series 1-1. The Indian captain is set to be fined 75% of her match fees and will earn 4 demerit points as well.
