For Alex Hales, playing in international cricket has been a second coming. During this phase, he will concentrate on playing T20 Internationals for England and franchise cricket across the world.
Hales played an explosive knock against India in the semi-finals of the most recent T20 World Cup, becoming one of England’s heroes.
When asked if he would now consider playing 50 over cricket in light of the World Cup being held in India the following year, he emphasized that his focus is on the shortest format.
Alex Hales Not Putting Much Thought Into ODI’s
“I don’t know but I think going forward I would concentrate on playing T20Is for England and franchise cricket. I haven’t put much thought into ODIs,” Hales provided the information to PTI during a zoom meeting hosted by Team Abu Dhabi, which will compete in the T10 league in the United Arab Emirates.
Hales thinks that playing in Asia, particularly in the UAE, gave him the chance to enhance his overall strategy for dealing with spin.
“On the subcontinent, pitches more often not tend to have a bias towards spin and you have to make sure you adapt your methods. And I think that’s one of the key things as a franchise cricketer.
“As you’re playing tournaments in different countries and conditions all year round, so you have to keep topping up on certain areas of your game all the time, otherwise you soon get found out,” he explained the reason behind picking the T10 league.
On November 23, the second game, Team Abu Dhabi will face the Deccan Gladiators in Abu Dhabi T10 to begin their season.
Difficult To Play All Three Formats At Top Level: Alex Hales
Hales has had a remarkable career as one of the most destructive batters in international cricket right now. However, Hales has consistently demonstrated his explosive skills whenever he has picked up his bat and entered the field. He hopes to do the same in the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament.
Alex Hales last played first-class cricket in 2018, and he now primarily plays in one format. Given that it is no longer practical to play all formats, he thinks that giving up red-ball cricket has improved his T20 performance.
“I think it’s exceptionally difficult to play all three formats at the top level. I think there’s only a handful of cricketers who are probably good enough to excel at all three,” he said.
Hales is confident that all three forms will have experts in the future.“Since I gave up the red ball format in 2018, my T20 game has improved a lot and quickly as well. And the way things are going, I think it will see more and more specialists in each format,” he signed off.
