AUS vs ENG: Australia Legend Slams David Warner For Smiling After Being Dismissed By Stuart Broad For The 17th Time

The one-sided battle between David Warner and Stuart Broad continued on Friday (July 7) as the England pacer continued his domination over the Australia opener in Tests.
With England seeking a good start with the ball in the second innings of the ongoing third Ashes Test at Headingley, Broad sent back Warner for just 1 in the third over. The latest dismissal has further extended Warner’s struggle against Broad in red-ball cricket. Broad had dismissed Warner cheaply in the first innings too.

The England veteran has now dismissed the clueless Australia opener 17 times in Tests. Only two other bowlers have managed to dismiss a particular batsman more than 17 times in Tests.
Former Australia pacer Glenn McGrath dismissed ex-England captain Mike Atherton 19 times while former England bowler Alec Bedser dismissed former Australia cricketer Arthur Morris 18 times. Since the start of 2019 Ashes series, Warner averages a disappointing 8.33 against Broad in Tests.

Ian Healy slams David Warner:
The latest failure in Tests has also extended David Warner’s poor record in the longest format of the game in recent years. The Southpaw has not scored a Test century outside Australia in almost six years. And former Australia wicketkeeper Ian Healy has slammed Warner for his attitude after the opening batsman did not show any remorse when he was dismissed by Broad on Friday.
As Warner walked out of the field, he was seen sporting a smile on his face. It was not the first time in this series that Warner was seen smiling after losing his wicket or being troubled by a good delivery. And Healy seems to have had enough of it. He not only took a shot at Warner for smiling after the dismissal but also questioned his place in the Test team.
“He’s smiling a little too much. I’m hopeful it’s not a smile and it just looks like a smile,” Healy told Channel 9.
“Not only is Broad unsettling him, but worldwide bowlers over the last two years have not had much trouble with him. I worry whether we can pick him again, even in the next Test,” he added.
Meanwhile, Australia were on 116 for 4 at stumps on day 2 with their overall lead extended to 142 runs. Earlier in the game, Australia scored 263 runs in the first innings before bowling out England for 237.
