After three failures in a row in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, David Warner, on Friday (October 20), roared back to form with a stunning century against Pakistan at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

David Warner registered scores of 41, 13, and 11 in his first three innings of the tournament. But on Friday, he showed his class again by scoring a whirlwind century against Pakistan. The Australia opener smashed 163 runs off just 124 balls. His stunning knock was studded with 14 fours and 9 sixes.

He also shared a mammoth stand of 259 runs with Mitchell Marsh for the first wicket. Marsh also scored a century and was dismissed for 121. And the latest century has helped David Warner equal Virat Kohli in an elite list. He became only the second player after Kohli to score four centuries in a row against a team in ODIs.

Kohli achieved the feat against West Indies between 2017 and 2018 when he scored four centuries in a row against them in ODIs. David Warner, on the other hand, has achieved the feat against Pakistan. Since 2017, he has played knocks of 130, 179, 107, and 163 against them in ODIs.

David Warner’s record-filled knock:

David Warner also became one of the very few players to touch the 5 centuries mark in the ODI World Cup. He is now equal with Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara in the list and is only behind Sachin Tendulkar (6) and Rohit Sharma (7).

During the knock against Pakistan, the 2015 World Cup winner also went past legendary Adam Gilchrist (1085) to become Australia’s second-highest run-scorer at 50-over World Cups behind Ponting (1743). He now has 1220 runs at an average of 61 in the ODI World Cup.

Talking about the game, Australia posted a huge total of 367 for 9 in the allotted 50 overs. For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi picked up five wickets and helped his team stop Australia from touching the 400-run mark which was looking inevitable at one stage. In reply, Pakistan were on 174 for 2 after 26 overs at the time of writing this report.
