David Warner retired from Test cricket on Saturday after Australia completed a cleansweep against Pakistan. The Aussies won the third Test by 8 wickets with Warner scoring 57 in the second innings in a chase of 130.

Australia completed a clean sweep and reclaimed the number one spot in the WTC points table after the Test series win. Warner retired with 8786 runs in 112 Test matches with 26 hundreds, three double hundreds, and 37 fifties.

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag who played alongside Warner in the early years of the IPL at Delhi Daredevils wished the southpaw in a very unique way. Warner retired from Test and ODI cricket but is open to playing T20I cricket for the national side.

On the same lines, Sehwag wished Warner to continue making reels and playing T20 cricket. The Australian opener is amongst the few international cricketers who are regularly active on Instagram.

Best Wishes For The Next Phase: Virender Sehwag To David Warner

“Congratulations @davidwarner31 on a wonderful Test career. Since the time I saw you, knew this is the format you will excel most in and what a ride it has been. Full on entertainment on the pitch and now hopefully more in reels and T20 cricket. Best wishes for the next phase,” Sehwag wrote on his Twitter handle.

In a long speech after he announced his Test retirement, Warner thanked everyone starting from his teammates to his wife to his near and dear ones who have played a big part in his Test career.

“We are all almost over 30 years of age, as time goes by, we are not getting younger, but this team, they’re energetic, they’re world-class and a great bunch of boys. (How would you like to be remembered?) Exciting, entertaining and I hope I put a smile on everyone’s face with the way I played. Hopefully the young kids out there can follow in my footsteps, white ball cricket to Test cricket, it’s the pinnacle of our sport. So keep working hard and play the red ball game which is entertaining as well. Thanks everyone” said Warner on his Test retirement.

David Warner also mentioned the name of his wife Candice Warner as she has played a pivotal role in shaping up his career, especially after the infamous Sandpaper Gate scandal.

“Candice sort of got me in line. We’ve had a beautiful family. I cherish every moment I get with them. I love them to death and I’m not going to keep carrying on because I’ll get too emotional. Thank you Candice for what you’ve done, you mean the world to me and I appreciate it” said Warner about his wife.

The Australian Cricket Board needs to find Warner’s replacement before their next Test series against West Indies. Meanwhile, several names have been considered with Steve Smith likely to be the front-runner to replace Warner at the top. The former Australian skipper has never opened in Test cricket but seemed excited at the new opportunity.

David Warner will be next seen leading the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 2024 starting from January 19 in the UAE.
