Australian opener David Warner bid farewell to Test and ODI cricket after the third AUS vs PAK Test match played at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Warner scored 91 runs in his final Test outing. Australia were able to win the match by eight wickets and also won the series 3-0. This was the 17th consecutive Test match that Pakistan lost in Australia.

While speaking to the media after the match, David Warner was asked about the secret behind him turning into a great athlete. Warner stated that in the early days of his Test career, he didn’t know how to look like an athlete on the cricket field. It was his wife, Candice, who started to take care of Warner’s fitness and noticed and didn’t understand how Warner and his teammates drank as cricketers.

David Warner said, “Early doors, I probably didn’t understand what it was about to be an athlete at this level. I was burning candles at both ends. She actually didn’t understand how we drank so much as cricketers. And I said to her that is how cricket is. I said like cricket was like back in the day and sort of something you do at the end of the day’s play. You crack open a beer, and coming from an individual-based athlete with Ironwoman you know you have to put up your self-pride and your ambitions before any social activities.”

“She trained the house down from day dot when she was getting up at four in the morning and me thinking she is crazy. It probably took four or five days before I got up at five or certainly a little bit longer and I got up and started doing things.”

“We live a very nice simple life at home with the girls. We enjoy each other’s company all the time. I still learn from her even with her media stuff. She tames me down a bit and looks over my tweets before I send them out. Thats is probably why nothing has been fired out of late. She definitely had a massive influence on my career and you know. I am blessed.”

David Warner played a total of 112 Test matches for Australia and has scored 8786 runs at an average of 44.59. Warner has also hit 26 hundreds and 37 half centuries and his highest score has been 335*.

David Warner scored a brilliant ton during the first Test match against Pakistan and played a knock of 164 runs. Warner was not in decent form at the start of 2023 and the selectors wanted him to be excluded from the team.

However, David Warner came back strong and scored a lot of runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Warner ended up in the tournament as sixth sixth-highest run scorer and scored 535 runs from 11 games.
