The 32-year-old South Africa National Cricket Team batter Khaya Zondo has questioned whether the light was appropriate at the Sydney Cricket Ground to continue the play at the time of his dismissal and said that he felt it was “quite dark”.
The third and final Test of the series between Australia and South Africa is currently underway at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Australia piled up 475/4 before declaring in the first innings and the Proteas batters once again struggled against the Aussie attack.

Khaya Zondo fought well after coming out to bat at 37/3 and scored 39 runs off 83 balls, including 2 fours and 2 sixes, before getting out LBW on the 4th ball of the 49th over, which was bowled by Australia captain Pat Cummins.
Premier pacer Cummins bowled a terrific yorker from round the wicket and the ball struck into the back pad of the Proteas batter. After the on-field umpire declared out, Zondo reviewed the dismissal and the third umpire told the on-field umpire to stay with his original decision. Notably, there was a spike on the replay, although it seemed to be caused by the bat hitting the ground.

However, speaking after the day’s play, Khaya Zondo stated that he felt he got an inside edge. He also said that the light was inappropriate for the play to be continued at the time of his dismissal.
“There was a spike. I don’t want to go too on about it, the decision’s made. It is what it is. It was just dark…that’s what I felt, it was quite dark. He [Cummins] is not slow, is he?” Khaya Zondo was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“We’ve got a day to bat, I’m sure we’ve done that before so I’m sure we’ll be able to do it tomorrow,” Zondo said.
At stumps on Day 4, South Africa were at 149/6 with still 326 runs behind and needing 127 to avoid the follow-on.
He’s been in good spirits…in the changing room – Khaya Zondo on Dean Elgar
Khaya Zondo further talked about Proteas captain Dean Elgar, who has failed miserably with the bat in the ongoing Australia tour, and said that he is in good spirits.
“He’s been in good spirits…in the changing room, you don’t see any frustrations,” Zondo said.
“I’ve been a captain at domestic level and I know what it can be like. If you are doing it at international level I’m sure it’s 10 times heavier but he’s handling it well.
“You can see that he’s experienced, so he knows the wheel will turn. He’s just got to stick to his processes and the team will also gather more experience and come right at some stage. The sun will shine eventually, it won’t stay like this forever.”
