Australia faces West Indies in the second Test starting on December 8 in Adelaide. This is a day-night Test match with the Aussies leading the side 1-0. They won the first Test by 164 runs and are looking to whitewash the Windies 2-0. The series is a part of the ongoing WTC with the Aussies topping the points table at the moment.

Australia will be led by Steve Smith in the Adelaide Test match with Pat Cummins ruled out with a quad injury. Scott Boland has been named as his replacement. In Mitchell Starc, they have the bowler who has taken the most wickets in day-night Test matches with 46.

Australia and West Indies have played 92 Test matches to date with the Aussies winning 59 matches while the Windies 35. The Aussies won a T20I series 2-0 before the Test series started. Both teams played in the T20 World Cup. While West Indies was out of the qualifier round, Australia got eliminated after the super 12 round.

the southpaw scored 5 and 48 in the two innings of the first Test. He will open the batting in the second Test. So far in 2022, Warner has scored 319 runs in 8 Test matches at an average of 22.79.

Usman Khawaja

Khawaja will open the batting with Warner. He scored 65 and 6 in the two innings of the first Test in Perth. The southpaw is closing in on 1000 runs in the format this year. So far he has scored 959 runs in 8 matches at an average of 87.18. 

Marnus Labuschagne

Labuschagne will slot in at three. He has been a consistent performer since his debut for Australia. In the first Test, he scored 204 and 104*. Overall in 2022, he scored 733 runs in 8 Test matches at an average of 56.38. 

Steve Smith

Smith will lead the side in the absence of Pat Cummins in Adelaide. He is fresh off an unbeaten 204 and 20 in the two innings of the Perth Test. Smith scored his 29th Test and equaled Don Bradman’s tally in the previous Test.

Head will slot in at number five. He scored 99 in the only innings he batted in the first Test. So far in 2022, he has scored 299 in seven Tests at an average of 33.22. The southpaw makes up the top five for Australia. 

Cameron Green

Green the all-rounder will slot in at six. He did not get a chance to bat in the first Test and took just one wicket. In 8 Tests this year, he has scored nearly 500 runs and taken 10 wickets.

Carey has been chosen over Peter Handscomb as the specialist keeper for the Test series. He has played 8 Test matches for Australia this year scoring 354 runs at an average of 39.33.

Mitchell Starc

Starc has taken 46 wickets in day-night Test matches for Australia. He took four wickets in the previous Test. The lead pacer is on 291 Test wickets and closing in on 300 wickets in the next Test. The pacer has taken 22 wickets this year in 8 Tests. 

Josh Hazlewood

Hazlewood is the second seamer in the playing XI. He took just two wickets in the first Test. He has just played two Test matches this year for his country. 

Nathan Lyon

Lyon picked up eight wickets in the last Test including a six-wicket haul in the second innings. The lead spinner has picked up 35 wickets in just 8 Tests this year. 

Scott Boland

Boland will conclude Australia’s likely playing XI for the second Test. He will replace his skipper Pat Cummins. The pacer played his last test in January earlier this year.
