Australia Playing 11 vs India – 3rd ODI, 2023. Australia takes on India in the third and final ODI in Rajkot on September 27, Wednesday. The match starts from 1.30 pm IST with India having won the first two ODIs. The Men in Blue are now looking for a clean sweep while Australia is a consolation win.
Nothing has gone right for Australia since the ODI series against South Africa. They have now lost five ODIs on the trot including the last two IND vs AUS ODIs. India have won big in the first two ODIs first by five wickets and then by 99 runs in the second ODI.
While the Indian team have been peaking at the right time, Australia are struggling with injury concerns and also struggling to find the right combinations. The ill-timed injury to key players is something that the management needs to address quickly.
For Australia, skipper Pat Cummins will return to lead the side. Mitchell Starc should also be back as should be Mitchell Starc. Marcus Stoinis who was rested for the second ODI should be back in the third. There are injury concerns over Glenn Maxwell who is recovering from an ankle injury. Though he is expected to be back in the XI, it will be interesting to see how he goes in the game. Ashton Agar who is part of Australia’s World Cup squad is ant available for this series.

Fast bowlers Spencer Johnson and Nathan Ellis have been ruled out of the upcoming third ODI between India and Australia. Johnson is down with a hamstring injury while Ellis is troubled with a groin injury for which the bowlers will not play the second ODI.
Johnson made his debut in the second ODI going for 61 runs in 8 overs while remaining wicketless. There are also reports of Travis Head being unavailable for the first half of the World Cup with a fractured left hand. David Warner
Warner will open the batting for Australia. He has scored back-to-back fifties but is yet to find his striking form. He was dismissed by R Aswin in the second game and will come up against him in Rajkot as well.
Mitchell Marsh
Marsh will open the batting with Warner. He was rested from the second ODI. The all-rounder scored just 4 in the first ODI. His bowling will be of immense value as well.
Steve Smith
Smith has been short of runs in this series. He scored 41 in the first ODI and was out for a first-ball duck in the second. He has over 1,000 runs against India with five centuries.
Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell will return to the ODI XI in the third ODI. He was rested from the first two games more as a precautionary measure by the management. Maxwell is key to Australia’s World Cup hopes with his all-round skills.
Marnus Labuschagne
Labuschagne might drop down at five if Maxwell bats at four. He has been the best batsman for Australia since the South Africa series. He might well make it to Australia’s World Cup squad with an injury cloud over Travis Head. He was undone by a beauty from Ravichandran Ashwin in the second ODI.
Marcus Stoinis
Stoinis too was rested from the second ODI. He will return to the side and might replace Matt Short in the XI. Marcus is being seen as a finisher for Australia in the World Cup.
Alex Carey (WK)
Carey is Australia’s first-choice keeper ahead of Josh Inglish and should be selected ahead of him. He is a good player against spin and will be banked upon to counter the threat of the Indian spinners. He scored 14 in the second ODI.
Sean Abbott
Abbott should retain his spot in the XI ahead of Cameron Green for the third ODI. He scored 54 batting at number eight and kept Australia in the fight. He should bat at eight in the final ODI too.
Pat Cummins (C)
Cummins will return to lead Australia in the final ODI. He will be tested as captain, especially after having lost the series. Pat Cummins will lead Australia in the World Cup as well.
Mitchell Starc
Starc will return to the playing XI for the third ODI. He did not play the first two games as he was recovering from his groin injury. by his own admission, the pacer has recovered well and is good to go.
Adam Zampa
Zampa will conclude Australia’s predicted playing XI for the third ODI. He had a tough time against South Africa and went for 67 in the second ODI.
