Australia Squad for ICC World Cup 2023, Schedule 2023, Team List, Match List. Australis starts their ICC World Cup 2023 campaign by facing off against India in Chennai on October 8. The 2015 World Cup winners will be gunning for their sixth World Cup title. The Aussies have won five World Cup titles, the most by any team. Between 1999-2007 they had a hattrick of World Cup wins.
Australia have already named an 18-member preliminary squad for the ICC World Cup 2023 in India. Three players from that squad will be axed as Cricket Australia will finalize their 15-member squad.
Before the World Cup, Australia will play a three-match T20I series followed by a five-match ODI series. Cricket Australia has already named the squads for the series with Pat Cummins leading it.
The Aussies will also play a three-match ODI series between September 22-27 before the ODI World Cup starts. Soon after the end of the World Cup, both teams played a five-match T20I series.
There is a lot of cricket that Australia will be playing in the build-up to the ICC event. They have a chance to finetune their squads and select the best possible squads. Monitoring the fitness and the workload of the key players is another aspect that the management needs to keep an eye on. In this article, we try and predict Australia’s 15-member World Cup squad.
Australia Squad for ICC World Cup 2023, Schedule 2023, Team List, Match List
Openers: David Warner, Travis Head
Warner will open the innings along with Head. Warner finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the last World Cup and is expected to be in the race once again. This is most probably his last World Cup for Australia and he would like to make an impact. He has a very good knowledge of Indian conditions and will be key to Australia’s fortunes in this campaign.
Middle-Order: Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh
All three players are key to Australia’s middle order. They also have a good knowledge of the conditions having played for a long time in the IPL. Steve Smith especially will have to maneuver the strike in the middle overs and set it up for the hard hitters in the end.
All-Rounders: Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis
Gree and Stoinis are two bif-hitting all-rounders that Australia possesses. Green can also open the batting if required. He gave a glimpse of his skills with the bat in the T20I series against India just ahead of the T20 World Cup last year. Stoinis holds the key for Australia in the final overs.
Wicketkeepers: Alex Carey, Josh Inglis
Carey and Inglish are both part of Australia’s preliminary WC squad and both are expected to be a part of the 15-member squad as well. Carey is expected to be the first-choice keeper given his ability to play spin in the middle overs. He is also safe behind the wicket with his glovework.
Pacers: Pat Cummins (C), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood
Cummins, Starc, and Hazlewood all three should be a part of Australia’s 15-member World Cup squad The trio have been shouldering the team’s responsibility with the ball since the last decade. Starc especially has been very keen to represent Australia in ICC events having sacrificed his career in foreign T20 cricket leagues including the IPL. He will be Australia’s most lethal weapon with the ball.
Spinners- Adam Zampa, Ashton Agar
Zampa and Agar should be Australia’s spin specialists. One being a leg spinner and the other being an orthodox left-arm spinner gives enough variety to the Australian bowling unit. Maxwell also can chip in a few overs of his right-arm off-spin. Given the conditions they will be playing in, this looks like Australia’s most balanced 15-member World Cup squad.
Australia Squad For ICC World Cup 2023: David Warner, Travis Head, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey (WK), Josh Inglis (WK), Pat Cummins (C), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa, Ashton Agar
