Australia have announced the squad for the upcoming white-ball series against England and Scotland. The biggest surprise from the tour is the absence of veteran fast bowler Pat Cummins, who has been rested given the hectic home summer in mind.

Australia will travel to Scotland for a three-match T20I series against the home team. The series will begin on September 4 at Edinburgh and the last T20I will be played on September 7. Afterwards, the team will move to England for a three-match T20I series and a five-match ODI series.

The T20I series will begin at Southampton on September 11 while the last T20I will be played at Manchester on September 15. The ODI series will follow the T20Is, with the first ODI to be played on September 19 at Nottingham. The final ODI of the series will be played on September 29 at Bristol.

Pat Cummins misses out from Australia's white-ball teams

Australia's Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins has been rested from the T20I and ODI squads against Scotland and England, keeping in mind his workload management. However, he will be seen playing for San Fransisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket in the coming days.

Matthew Wade, who has been the team's preferred wicketkeeper in the T20I format was also not selected as the selectors went for a young squad with Josh Inglis the first choice wicketkeeper in the squad.

Mitchell Marsh has been appointed as the captain for both T20I and ODI teams for the tour. Marsh is already Australia's T20I captain and also led the team in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024, where Australia failed to reach the semi-finals.

The young batting sensation Jake Fraser-McGurk has been given a chance in both T20I and ODI teams. The youngster is seen as the replacement of David Warner at the top order in the white-ball teams. Fraser-McGurk has been in superb form since the past year and had a great IPL 2024 where he had a strike rate of over 230.

Experienced batters Steve Smith, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc and Marnus Labuschagne have been retained in the ODI squads. All these players were part of the squad when Australia won the ODI World Cup 2023. In a big surprise, Glenn Maxwell was not selected in the T20i squad but is a part of ODIs.

Australia's chairman of selectors George Bailey stated that giving the youngsters a chance was the primary objective of this tour. The experienced players have been rested due to the workload management.

“This tour gives us a great opportunity to bring in some new players in the absence of David Warner and Matthew Wade, as well as giving some senior players time to prepare for the home summer and a busy first half of next year,” George Bailey said

“That has included gradual integration of new players into our white ball squads who have earned international opportunities via excellent form,” he added.
