In the wake of Pakistan's disastrous campaign in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly set to take a number of big steps that could see players losing central contracts as well.

The Babar Azam-led side was one of the contenders for the title. However, they could not even progress ahead of the group stage after losing two of the four games. Pakistan, who had finished runners-up in the last edition of the T20 World Cup, began their campaign with losses against USA and India. They managed to beat Canada and Ireland but could not find a spot in the Super 8s.

The poor display in the T20 World Cup has only extended Pakistan's poor run in international cricket in recent months. Nothing much has gone right for them on the field in recent times. The PCB had made a number of changes last year as well after Pakistan failed to progress ahead of the league stage in the ODI World Cup.

Babar Azam had stepped down as the captain while the entire backroom staff was sacked. A new selection panel was formed as well. However, the new PCB management reversed a number of decisions. Babar was reinstated as the captain but it has not yielded the desired result so far.

The PCB is now set to take action against the players as well for the poor display in the T20 World Cup. According to a report in PTI, the board is actively looking at the central contracts given by former Chairman Zaka Ashraf to the players under which their tenure is for three years. The players could face demotion or even lose their central contracts.

"Most likely players, who have central contracts, will be demoted or even dropped because of poor performances and other perks awarded to the players will be looked into," a PCB source told the news outlet.

PCB to reverse decision on selection committee:

In another big call, the PCB is also set to revert to its old selection committee system after its recent experiment of having no chief selector. Before the new system was introduced, Wahab Riaz was the chief selector. While Wahab was not removed from the selection panel, he lost his post as the chief selector. Each member of the panel had the same power.

"The board is likely to return to the old system of having a chief selector with two or three selectors and the captain and head coach not sitting in selection meetings with the selectors," said the source.
