A new controversy surrounding pacer Tamim Iqbal has hit Bangladesh cricket after their exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. The World Cup concluded recently with Team India being crowned the T20 World Cup champions for the second time.

Jasprit Bumrah was named the Player of the tournament for his 15 wickets. Virat Kohli was named the man of the match for his 76 runs in the final. Virat and Rohit Sharma bid goodbye to T20I international cricket after India's World Cup win.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh pacer and T20I vice-captain Taskin Ahmed has apologized to his teammates for missing the Super 8 match against India. The Tigers ultimately lost the match and Taskin now with the World Cup done and dusted has come out with an apology.

A BCCI official confirmed to Cricbuzz on request of anonymity that Taskin missed the bus as he could not get up on time from his sleep. A few questions were raised after Bangladesh was forced to play with just two pacers once Taskin failed to make the team bus on time.

Questions were raised about Taskin's commitment to the national cricket team and the kind of excuse he gave for missing the crucial match against India.

Cricbuzz further understands that the board decided to keep a BCB official at the team hotel after he failed to reach through on Taskin's phone as he was not picking up the call. There are further speculations that the Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha did not want him to pick in the XI. However, the BCB official has a different take on this.

"It is true that he (Taskin) joined the team later after missing the team bus. But why he did not play only the coach can say because whether he was in the plan or not (against India) is something that can be answered by the head coach (Chandika Hathurusingha)" said the official on Monday.

"If there was any issue (between coach and the player) how he played the next game against Afghanistan. He apologized to his teammates and everyone for not being able to get up on time and that's it and no need to make an issue out of it," the BCB official further added.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha has refrained from saying anything on the matter willing to focus on the present and analyzing the reasons behind Bangladesh's exit from the tournament.

Bangladesh won matches against Sri Lanka, Nepal, Netherlands in the Group stage and lost to South Africa. They qualified for the Super s and lost to Australia, India, and Afghanistan. Bangladesh's loss to Afghanistan knocked Australia out of the tournament as India and Afghanistan qualified for the semi-final from Group 1.

Taskin Ahmed Blames Batters For Bangladesh's Poor T20 World Cup

Meanwhile, Taskin criticized the Bangladesh batters for their early exit from the tournament. Their batters were not able to resist the pressure from teams like Australia and South Africa. Bangladesh's loss to Afghanistan chasing just 116 to win was a major disappointment. They were bowled out for 105 in the chase.

"I haven't seen such a long bad patch for the batters in my 10 years playing for Bangladesh. I hope it goes away quickly. We never had great numbers in T20s. We are improving slowly" said Taskin.
