BCCI secretary Jay Shah explained that the money raised at the e-auction will be used primarily to improve cricket in India. He stated that the board intends to start a full-fledged women’s IPL in 2023 and is making efforts on it.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Wednesday that the media rights to the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the 2023-2027 cycle had been sold. The board stated that it earned a whopping Rs 48,390.32 crore from the deal, producing the T20 league the world’s second-richest sports property.

Jay Shah, the general secretary of the BCCI, sent his warm wishes to the winners of the e-auctions.

“It brings me great satisfaction and makes me happy that the IPL has progressed to where it is now. In terms of pre-match media rights worth, the e-auction today has launched the IPL into the major league.”

Shah went on to say that the money raised during the e-auction will mostly be used to improve cricket in India. He stated that the board intends to introduce a full-fledged women’s IPL in 2023 and is taking steps on it.

“The objective is to strike a balance between cricket and business interests because the BCCI is dedicated to promoting the sport in the nation through cricket. The revenue we get from media rights will go to grassroots cricket in India, and that is what counts in the end.”
