Former West Indies skipper Brian Lara has come out with his point of view on the MCC legalising the ‘Mankad’ mode of dismissal in its new set of rules which will be in play from October this year. The mode of dismissal was termed as run out from being regarded as ‘ Unfair play’ as per rule 38 of the MCC.

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) announced a series of revisions to the existing rules of the game. In all, it is one of the nine changes that MCC has made which will be active from October later this year. The Mankad mode of dismissal however has brought mixed reactions from cricketers themselves. While Ravichandran Ashwin was one of the first ones to speak in favour of the dismissal, Stuart Broad among other cricketers has criticise the same.

Brian Lara while talking to Sportstar also joined the league of cricketers who are against this mode of dismissal. “I still feel it is not in the spirit of the game,” Lara told Sportstar when asked about his thoughts on the MCC ruling.

Previously Ravichandran Ashwin voiced his concern on the mode of dismissal after having lengthy discussions of the same on his Youtube channel.

“My dear fellow bowlers, please understand. The extra step the non-striker is taking might end up destroying your entire career,” Ashwin, who had ignited a debate about the tactic’s legitimacy by dismissing England’s Jos Buttler in an Indian Premier League match in 2019, said in a Youtube video.

“If the non-striker ends up on strike because of that extra step he is taking, he might smash a six. Whereas the current striker might have gotten out. If you take a wicket, you will grow in your career, whereas if you are smashed for a six, your career may go downwards. So the impact is huge,” he further said.

Ashwin is likely to keep doing the same in the upcoming IPL season as well if he gets an opportunity. He will be playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022 with Jos Buttler as one of his teammates.
