Former Team India cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth expressed his disappointment over Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) poor performance in their IPL 2025 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Srikkanth, who was part of India's 1983 World Cup-winning team, called the defeat one of their worst in the IPL.
The Chennai Super Kings are going through a challenging phase after a loss to the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, at Chepauk on Friday, April 11. MS Dhoni returned as captain, but the five-time champions suffered their fifth consecutive defeat. It was their first-ever five-match losing streak in a season.
One of CSK's Worst Defeats Ever - Krishnamachari Srikkanth
Krishnamachari Srikkanth said that Chennai Super Kings should make a bold change to break their slump. Srikkanth added that the management must consider bringing in unsold players like Prithvi Shaw.
“One of CSK's worst defeats ever. Powerplay batting looked like a rehearsal for a test match. Whole XI feels like it's running on nostalgia. Time to think out of the box, why not try some unsold players like Prithvi Shaw at this point? Would you try it? even chaos is a strategy?” Srikkanth wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Can Chennai Super Kings Secure Prithvi Shaw?
CSK have the option to sign Prithvi Shaw as an injury replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was ruled out of the IPL 2025 season due to an elbow injury sustained during a match against Rajasthan Royals on March 30.
Shaw played for Delhi Capitals from 2018 to 2024, amassing 1892 runs in 79 IPL matches. He was not retained by Delhi ahead of the 2025 season and entered the mega auction with a base price of Rs 75 lakh. However, no franchise picked him, likely due to concerns over his fitness and disciplinary issues.
The former U-19 World Cup-winning captain has represented India in all formats. Shaw made a memorable debut in Test cricket with a century against the West Indies in 2018.
Chennai Super Kings Could Only Manage 103/9 at Chepauk
Chennai Super Kings posted just 103/9 at home on a slow Chepauk pitch. The absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad compounded their struggles, and they were forced to include Deepak Hooda as an Impact Player by sacrificing Matheesha Pathirana. This was CSK's third defeat at Chepauk in the ongoing IPL season.
KKR's spin trio of Moeen Ali, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sunil Narine claimed six wickets between them. Only four CSK batters reached double digits, and KKR restricted them to their lowest score of the season.
In response, KKR chased down the target in 10.1 overs. Sunil Narine smashed 44 off 18 balls, including two fours and five sixes. Captain Ajinkya Rahane (20*), Quinton de Kock (23), and Rinku Singh (15*) helped the team reach the target with 59 balls to spare.
