England pacer Chris Woakes claimed the wicket of Rohit Sharma in the fourth Test at Oval which got underway on Thursday. Team India was off to a breezy start before Woakes knocked over the Indian opener.

Having lost the toss, India was asked to bat first under typical cloudy conditions in London. However, it wasn’t as tough to bat as was predicted, as the openers Rohit and KL Rahul settled quite well.

There was no swing early on even with experienced master James Anderson operating the new Duke’s ball. The moment Chris Woakes came on, the situation changed as he found considerable movement in his very first over.

After baiting a few false shots from Rohit, the returning Woakes produced a peach of a delivery that bounced sharply and moved away from the batsman. Rohit tried to ride the bounce but did so in an uncomfortable position, only managing an edge which was gobbled up by ‘keeper Jonny Bairstow.

Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav brought in for the Oval Test

Indian skipper Virat Kohli revealed at the toss that senior pacers Ishant Sharma and Mohammad Shami were complaining of niggles prior to the start of the match. As a result, the visitors were forced to make a couple of changes.

Shardul Thakur, who played in the first Test at Trent Bridge, returned to the playing XI while Umesh Yadav was also brought in. There were still no signs of Ravichandran Ashwin, who continues to warm the benches much to the surprise of the cricketing fraternity.

Ravindra Jadeja also made the team after undergoing scans on his knees. Indian fans heaved a sigh of relief when the all-rounder was included in the playing XI, thereby confirming that there was nothing to worry about.
