Jamaica Tallawahs will take on Barbados Royals in the 6th match of CPL 2021 on Sunday (IST) at Warner Park Cricket Stadium. Both teams have had contrasting starts to their respective campaign.
Jamaica Tallawahs have kickstarted their CPL 2021 campaign in a heroic fashion. They registered a mammoth 120-run win against St. Lucia Kings in their first game and now found themselves at the top of the points table. Jamaica showcased the kind of ball strikers they have got this year.
Every player in the top five made substantial contributions with the bat as they posted a gigantic 255-run total in the first innings. Openers, Chaldon Walton and Kennar Lewis set the tone with an 81-run partnership for the opening wicket. Walton smashed 47 runs off 29 balls, while Kennar Lewis scored 48 off 21 balls. The duo made a ferocious start in the powerplay overs.
Haiden Ali (45 off 32) and Rovman Powell (38 off 26) then carried on the fireworks before Andre Russell caused mayhem in the final few overs of the innings. Russell smashed 6 sixes and 3 fours en-route to a half-century off just 14 balls, which is the fastest half-century in the history of the tournament.
In the second innings, Migael Pretorius ran through St. Lucia Kings’s batting line in the powerplay overs. Half of the side was back to the pavilion after scoring 55 in 5 overs. Tim David scored a half-century later but it was never going to be enough. St. Lucia Kings were eventually folded for 135 in 17.3 overs.
On contrary, Barbados have made the worst possible start to their campaign. They have lost both the games they have played so far in the competition. They scored 122 and 154 in the two matches they have played thus far. Shai Hope and Azam Khan have stepped up to the task, however, the likes of Glenn Phillips, Johnson Charles and Jason Holder are yet to come to the party.
The fast bowling trio of M Amir, J Holder and O Thomas has been doing a decent job. However, the spin duo of Hayden Walsh and Ashley Nurse hasn’t made great returns so far, which isn’t a good sign for the team.
