Veteran cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur created history by becoming the first Team India women’s captain to lift the ICC Women’s World Cup trophy. The middle-order batter shared a photograph in which she is seen resting in bed with the World Cup trophy beside her, wearing a nostalgic, classic T-shirt.
India defeated South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2. After being sent in to bat, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side posted a total of 298 runs. Their bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, bowling South Africa out despite Laura Wolvaardt’s valiant resistance.
That’s Why Cricket Is Everyone’s Game - Harmanpreet Kaur
On Monday (November 3), Harmanpreet Kaur celebrated India’s World Cup win with an Instagram post. The India captain shared a photo of herself asleep beside the trophy. She was seen wearing a T-shirt with the text “Cricket is a gentleman's ~gentleman’s~ EVERYONE'S game.”
Harmanpreet stated that cricket is everyone’s game. The post caught attention on social media, as the victory was special for fans across the country.
The 36-year-old captioned the social post: “Some dreams are shared by a billion people. That’s why cricket is everyone’s game.”

Posing with trophies in bed has become a trend across sports. Rohit Sharma and Lionel Messi have shared similar victory snapshots in the past. Jemimah Rodrigues and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana also joined in, posting their own bed-with-the-trophy photos after India’s World Cup win.
Harmanpreet Kaur Dismissed for 20 Runs with the Bat in Final
India’s triumph in the World Cup can be a defining moment for women’s cricket in the country, with many drawing parallels to the men’s 1983 victory. Watching from the stands, Rohit Sharma hoped Harmanpreet Kaur would not experience the same heartbreak he once faced in a World Cup final.
Kaur could not make a major impact with the bat, as the Indian captain scored 20 from 29 balls, including two boundaries. Shafali Verma scored 87 off 78 balls, while Deepti Sharma added a run-a-ball 58.
Richa Ghosh, who struck 34 off 24 deliveries, helped the team push the total close to 300. The 104-run opening stand between Shafali and Smriti Mandhana set the tone for the home team.
India Become the Fourth Team to Win the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup
India got off to a disappointing start, as the team suffered three consecutive group-stage defeats. However, they bounced back with a win over New Zealand to seal a semifinal berth. They then stunned defending champions Australia with a record chase, booking their place in the final.
Before their recent triumph, India had twice reached the Women’s World Cup final. They also narrowly missed out on multiple global tournaments between 2020 and 2024. However, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side rewrote history, ending the long wait for the title.
With their triumph, India became only the fourth team to lift the Women’s World Cup, joining Australia, England, and New Zealand in the elite group of champions.
