Former Australian batter David Warner fired a warning to the Pat Cummins-led side ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series against India. David Warner said that Virat Kohli can rediscover his best form against Australia after his disappointing outings against Bangladesh and New Zealand.

Kohli has struggled with his form in recent years, as he scored only two Test centuries in the last five years. The right-handed batter scored just one half-century at a dismal average of 21.33 in his last 10 innings in Test cricket. Kohli scored just 93 runs in six innings during India's 3-0 loss to New Zealand.

I'm Worried About Virat Kohli - David Warner

In his column for The Herald Sun, David Warner said that Australians should not underestimate Virat Kohli in the five-match Test series. Warner mentioned that Kohli loves to bat in Australian conditions, adding that the Indian batter should not be written off.

"I'm worried about Virat Kohli … but not for the reasons everyone else is. I've seen this before. People want to write Virat off after India's disastrous 3-0 Test series loss to New Zealand this month, but I'm actually worried for Australia," Warner said in his Herald Sun column.

"This is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and we know Virat always steps up in Australia and completely embraces that challenge like almost no one else who has ever visited our shores. There is no better way for him to come out and shut the critics up," he continued.

The Last Time We See Virat In Australia - David Warner

David Warner said that this could be Virat Kohli's last appearance in Australia in Test cricket. The former opening batter said that Virat will thrive on the fact he hasn't done so well for a while.

"I'm genuinely worried for the Australian cricket team that he's going to come out and pile on some runs. For Australia's sake I hope he doesn't, but I think he will thrive on the fact he hasn't done so well for a while and he's got a point to prove," Warner further stated.

"This will definitely be the last time we see Virat in Australia in Test match whites which is something we should all savour. Virat has always been the person they rely heavily on to score runs and more often than not in Australia he has proven up for the contest," he concluded.

Virat Kohli's Stats in Test Matches on Australian Soil

Kohli played his first Test match during the 2011-12 series, where he scored 300 runs at an average of 37.50, including one century and one fifty. He was at his best during the subsequent tour in 2014-15, scoring a record-breaking 692 runs at an average of 86.50 and smashing four centuries and a half-century.

The Delhi-born cricketer scored 282 runs at an average of 40.28 in four Tests during the 2018-19 tour. He played just one match during the 2020-21 series before paternity leave. The 36-year-old batter was the captain of India's first-ever bilateral Test series win in Australia during the 2018-19 series.
