Former Indian skipper Dilip Vengsarkar was nominated as the representative of the Mumbai Cricket Association in an AGM meeting on Saturday, March 19. However, the meeting was not attended by President Vijay Patil or Secretary Sanjay Naik, which as per rules does not make the nomination valid.
The meeting was attended by 109 authorised signatories called by the opposition faction led by the Ravi Sawant-Ravi Mandrekar group which actually overturned all the decisions taken by the ruling dispensation.
Dilip Vengsarkar’s Nomination Not Valid As President, Secretary Remain Absent in AGM Meeting
“There was no AGM today and it has been deferred. We are not aware of any such meetings” PTI quoted Secretary Sanjay Naik saying. Thus it is still not clear that the decisions taken in this supposed AGM meeting are valid at all.
The 85th AM meeting saw a few more decisions being taken including disbanding of the all-important Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) comprising three former India players in Vinod Kambli, Jatin Paranjape and Nilesh Kulkarni as they were unhappy with the performances of a few of their players in white-ball tournaments.
The selection committee headed by Salil Ankola has been retained despite selecting teams for white-ball tournaments. The general body has also appointed a new ombudsman named retired Justice Bhosle of the Allahabad High Court.
The minutes of the 8th AGM meeting was also discarded with several of them being set for a redrafting process to the Apex council. The new MCA chairman was also appointed at the AGM meeting. Milind Narvekar will be the new MCA chairman while Nilesh Bhosle is now a member of the governing council.
Whether the new decisions and observations are validated by the President and Secretary will be an interesting observation as they represent the state at the BCCI forum.
