Former Pakistan cricket captain Javed Miandad recently made sensational comments on India’s refusal to visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023. Pakistan’s great batsman clarified his recent controversial statement blaming the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for not touring Pakistan.

Pakistan is expected to host the Asia Cup in their country for the first time in 14 years. The BCCI secretary and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president, Jay Shah said in October that India would not go to Pakistan for the tournament due to diplomatic tensions. The BCCI reiterated its push for a natural venue at the recent ACC meeting.

It’ll Benefit Both Nations – Javed Miandad

Javed Miandad, who came under fire in India for his comment that “India can go to hell”, made it clear that he wanted to say that Pakistan is not worried if India chooses not to play in Pakistan.

Do you know what hell means? If you don’t want to play just don’t. We don’t have a problem. Ask the Indian cricketers. They’ll also say that there should be cricket between these two teams in their respective countries. It’ll benefit both nations,” he said in a YouTube video.

“If they think that their (India) not coming to Pakistan makes any difference, let me tell you that it doesn’t. That’s what I meant. We are independent. Pakistan has produced world-class cricketers as well as hockey players. Everywhere around the world, neighboring countries are playing with each other,” he added.

Lahore Residents Invited Them To Their Houses – Javed Miandad

Miandad recalled instances when relations between India and Pakistan were better, saying residents of Lahore invited Indian players to their homes during matches in Pakistan.

Earlier we used to go there and then they used to come here. When India came to play a series in Pakistan, there were so many people from India who also came to watch. There were no hotels available and the Lahore residents invited them to their houses. It had a very good impact on the relationships between the two countries.”

The bilateral series between India and Pakistan is almost over after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. However, Pakistan visited India for a white-ball series in 2012-13. The two sides have had some exciting matches at the ICC and ACC tournaments. The Men in Green last visited India in 2016 for the T20 World Cup.
