The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 final is taking place between the England National Cricket Team and the Australia National Cricket Team at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. This is the final of the 10th edition of the tournament, which started back in 2009. In the match, Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry achieved a record.
Australia won the toss and elected to field first. Both teams did not make any changes from their last win in the semi-final over West Indies and South Africa, respectively. Ellyse Perry featured in a T20 World Cup final for the 7th time, becoming the player with the joint-most appearances in the T20 World Cup final. This is an excellent record for the veteran cricketer.
Ellyse Perry joins hands with former Australia captain
Perry has now tied with former teammate Alyssa Healy, who also appeared in the T20 World Cup final seven times. This showcases the talent and the consistency the former has showcased over the years; this might be Perry’s last World Cup given her age and fitness concerns.
Perry, along with former skipper Alyssa Healy, has played in seven ICC Women's T20 World Cup finals, winning six titles with Australia (2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, 2023) and finishing as a runner-up once (2016).
Ellyse Perry to bowl in the final?
Ellyse Perry had some concerns in the semi-final against West Indies. She was taken off the field while batting in the match with a quad issue, and she did not have to return to the field after Australia chased down the target of 126 with 8 wickets in hand and qualified for the final.
On Saturday, current Australia captain Sophie Molineux said it would be an advantage for the side if Perry was available to bowl. Ahead of the ongoing game, she was seen bowling in practice ahead of the game, which means she might bowl in the match later on if needed.
Australia dominates in World Cup finals against England
During the toss, Molineux confirmed that there were no changes to the playing XI and revealed that Ellyse Perry had recovered well after training the previous day. She said the team was excited to take the field.
This match is the fourth Women's T20 World Cup final between Australia and England.
Australia has won the previous three title matches between the two teams, in 2012, 2014, and 2018.
The defending champions came into the tournament looking for a record-breaking seventh Women's T20 World Cup title. England, meanwhile, aims to win the trophy for the second time, having won the first edition at Lord's in 2009, while also attempting to break Australia's supremacy in world finals.
