England’s star batter Joe Root broke yet another record in the red ball. Joe Root became the 2nd England batter to score 11,000 Test runs after former skipper & Sir Alastair Cook.

Earlier on Day 1, England had opted to bowl first & bundled out Ireland for 172 runs. In the absence of James Anderson (*injured), the veteran speedster Stuart Broad took a brilliant 5 wicket haul and was giving any room to the batters.

Not a single batter of Ireland scored 40-odd runs and it won’t be wrong to say the batters lacked intent and were in a hurry to play an attacking brand of cricket which didn’t help the team much.
England got off to a brilliant start and the pair of Zak Crawley & Ben Duckett got the team off to a rollicking start as they were involved in a 109-run partnership in 16.3 overs. There was carnage at the iconic “Lord’s”.

Joe Root Becomes 4th Slowest To 11,000 Test Runs

Ahead of the match against Ireland, the modern-day batting great Joe Root needed 52 runs to accomplish the 11,000 runs feat in the purest format of the game.
He played the ‘Bazball’ brand of cricket and smashed 56 runs off 59 balls, with 4 fours and 1 six, to achieve the massive milestone. He became only the second Englishman after Cook and the overall 11th player to achieve the landmark. Notably, Joe Root took 238 innings to complete 11,000 Test runs and he is the fourth slowest among 11 batters to achieve the feat.
Innings taken to reach 11000 Test runs:
Kumar Sangakkara – 208
Brian Lara – 213
Ricky Ponting – 222
Sachin Tendulkar – 223
Rahul Dravid – 234
Jacques Kallis – 234
Mahela Jayawardene – 237
Joe Root – 238
Alastair Cook – 252
Shivnarine Chanderpaul – 256
