ENG vs NZ: Major Blow To New Zealand As Devon Conway Tests Positive For Covid-19

New Zealand National Cricket Team have suffered yet another blow as star batter Devon Conway has tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the third and final Test game of the series against England.

New Zealand had lost the first two matches of the three-match Test series against England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, London and the Trent Bridge, Nottingham. The third match is set to be played at the Headingley, Leeds from June 23.

The 30-year-old Kiwi batter Conway failed miserably in the Lord’s Test as he scored 3 and 13 runs in the match. However, he batted very well in the Nottingham Test, scoring 46 and 52 runs.

On Thursday, June 16, the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) released an official statement confirming that the star batter Devon Conway has been found Covid-19 positive. Also, the batter has begun five days of isolation.

“BLACKCAPS batter Devon Conway has tested positive for Covid-19 and has begun five days of isolation. Conway undertook a PCR test on arrival in London on Wednesday evening in preparation for a team activity,” NZC stated.

Ahead of the second Test between England and New Zealand in Nottingham, the New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was found Covid-19 positive and Tom Latham had led the side in that game.

Also, all-rounder Michael Bracewell, who had a memorable debut in Nottingham, was tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday.

“He joins all-rounder Michael Bracewell and support staff personnel Vijay Vallabh (physio) and Chris Donaldson (strength & conditioning) as members of the tour party to have tested positive on Wednesday,” New Zealand Cricket (NZC) stated.

Meanwhile, the positive players and staff will be travelling to Leeds on Sunday and if they recover in time they can join the team’s training session ahead of the game.

“The three will travel separately from the team to Leeds on Sunday and providing they recover as expected will be able to join the team for training at Headingley on Tuesday, ahead of Thursday’s final Test.”

“The rest of the touring party have returned negative results and will continue following the tour health protocols of symptom reporting and subsequent testing if required. No replacements player are being sort at this stage,” NZC further stated.
