Wahab Riaz, the chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has found himself in hot water for his poor gesture towards Azam Khan, Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batter, during the practice session.

Riaz is currently on the England tour with the Pakistan national cricket team for the T20I series. The Men in Green are currently playing a four-match T20I series against the England cricket team after winning the T20I series by a 2-1 margin in Ireland.

They are trailing 1-0 in the ongoing T20I series against England, with the first match being washed out and losing the second game to the hosts. Now, they are hoping to level the T20I series in Cardiff against England.

Wahab Riaz under fire for asking Azam Khan to carry his shoes

As the Pakistan cricket team is preparing for their third T20I against England in Cardiff on May 28, a video is breaking the internet where Azam was asked to pick his shoes by the national chief selector Riaz, and fans went berserk at the former pacer for his poor behavior.

In a video circulating on social media, Azam Khan can be seen walking back to the pavilion after completing his practice session in Cardiff. As he picks up his kit bag and heads towards the dressing room, Wahab Riaz calls him from behind, as he is standing far away from the keeper.

Riaz, pointing to his shoes, asked Azam to carry them with him to the dressing room. Despite initially responding with a comment, Azam kindly picked up Riaz's shoes and took them with him. After the clip of the unexpected moment went viral on social media, fans were slamming Riaz for doing so.

Recently, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi questioned Azam’s place in the national team. The legendary all-rounder said that he would have never picked the wicketkeeper-batter in his team because of his poor fitness.

Azam’s stats are not also good, as he has scored only 88 runs at an average of 11 and a strike rate of 146, with a best score of 30, in 12 T20Is for the Men in Green. And Afridi predicted that Khan will struggle in the West Indies behind the stumps.

Afridi had said on the Samaa TV: “Fitness is the main thing. If you are fit, your body language gives it away on the ground, be it while batting, bowling, or fielding. You can’t compromise on fitness. I would never let Azam Khan get anywhere near the team as far as fitness is concerned.”

He has also been picked in Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies, starting on June 1. Pakistan will kick off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against the co-host USA on June 6 at Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas.
