England National Cricket Team all-rounder Chris Woakes is all set to miss the Test opener against New Zealand National Cricket Team at the Lord’s after failing to recover from “niggles” in his shoulder and knee during the West Indies tour.

The three-match Test series between the Ben Stokes-led England National Cricket Team and Kane Williamson-led New Zealand National Cricket Team will begin at the Lord’s in London from June 2.

The second Test match of the series will be played from June 10 at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham and the third and last match of the Test series will take place at the Headingley, Leeds from June 23.

All-rounder Chris Woakes has been continuously playing the cricket for England since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 as he alongside Jonny Bairstow are the only two players who have participated in the T20 World Cup 2021, Ashes 2021-22, and England tour of West Indies for England.

Also, the absence of veteran pacers, James Anderson and Stuart Broad and the injuries to Ollie Robinson and Mark Wood forced Woakes into playing three Tests against West Indies.

The 33-year-old Chris Woakes has sustained knee and shoulder injuries. However, the injuries he has suffered are not very serious and he doesn’t require surgery.

Meanwhile, Woakes, who has got an outstanding record at Lord’s, might be available for the second game against New Zealand if he participates in Warwickshire’s meeting with Yorkshire next week.

Other than Chris Woakes, England will miss the services of many pacers throughout the series against New Zealand as express pacers Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Olly Stone have not yet recovered. Also, all-rounder, Sam Curran isn’t bowling many overs for Surrey.

The pace bowling options available for England are Ollie Robinson, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Saqib Mahmood, and Craig Overton.

England’s Test squad for the series against New Zealand is likely to be announced next week and England will be playing under new skipper Ben Stokes, who recently replaced Joe Root as England’s red-ball skipper.
