England vs India 3rd Test: "These Days Don't Come Around Very Often" - James Anderson Cherishes Day-One Performance

England veteran seamer James Anderson who was one of the reasons for the excellent performance from England on day one of the Headingly Test was highly satisfied with the overall efforts. India was in all sorts of bother after losing two early wickets of KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara and it was complete dominance from ball one by England.

With wickets falling from both ends, India was hampered for just 78 in the first innings with all the England seamers contributing to the wicket tally. This was India’s third-lowest total against England in Tests and also their ninth overall lowest total in the longer format. The England openers after having been under the scanner for most of the series finally got going and finished the day with still 10 wickets in hand.

James Anderson Recalls The Melbourne Test Against Australia in 2010

James Anderson was happy with England’s overall performances yesterday with bat and ball and he admitted these performances do not come very often. He even recalled the Melbourne test in 2010 when England dismissed Australia for 98 and batted out brilliantly as well to finish with 157 for no loss at the end of the day.

“It doesn’t get much better than that I don’t think. These days don’t come around very often, so you just have to be happy when they do,” 

“The only difference with Melbourne is that I was keen to bowl there and I wasn’t today for some reason. I was trying to tempt Joe into batting!” James Anderson told on Sky Sports

James Anderson Reckons England Clicked Well As A Unit

James Anderson reckoned that it was important to put on a stunning performance after losing the toss and highlighted the fact that the bowling unit clicked really well as a unit. He also lauded the batsmen for providing a great platform from here on to win the test.

“But losing the toss, being asked to bowl and then putting in a performance like that…it just doesn’t get much better. We’ve talked about trying to bowl as a unit, as a group, and we just absolutely nailed it. With both ball and bat we’ve displayed exactly what we wanted to do.”

“The way the two guys played towards the end of the day with the bat was outstanding and exactly what we’ve been asking for” He added

England openers Rory Burns and Haseem Hameed struck half-centuries and remained unbeaten at the end of day one and England have a lead of 42 runs in their hand.
