A fraudster has tricked about 200 fans of Team India into a fake meet-and-greet event with the members of the Indian team in a hotel in Sydney. According to reports in the Australian media the fraudster had left flyers on cars parked at the Sydney Cricket Ground during the ODI series between India and Australia advertising a “meet and greet with the Indian cricket team” at the restaurant when India come to Sydney for the third Test.
The cost of each ticket was Aus $550 and now the restaurant owners fear that the fans who bought the tickets for a non-existent dinner will show up and demand answers. The owners also confirmed that the fraudster hasn’t paid a full $5,000 deposit and didn’t show up at the meetings to discuss the menu, decorations, and timings for the arranged event.

The restaurant in attention is the one that provides meals for the Indian cricketers when they are in Sydney. However, the owner realized that it was a scam when he found out that the Indian team wouldn’t be there on the said date (January 5).
The scam was reported to the police, as well as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s ScamWatch service. The New South Wales Police also confirmed it was a “fraudulent event” and urged people who had paid the scammer to get in touch.
