On Saturday evening, happiness galore in the Suryakumar Yadav household and amongst his friends and fans on social media as the 30-year-old was given his maiden call-up to the national team for the forthcoming 5-match T20I series against England. The short-format series commences on March 12; all games will be played in Ahmedabad, where the remaining two Tests are scheduled.

Despite a thunderous IPL 2020, he was snubbed from the Australia tour. However, now not only has he been selected in the 19-man squad, but is also likely to feature in the eleven as Manish Pandey and Sanju Samson, both of whom were toured Australia, have been dropped.

Everything started playing in my mind when I got the news: Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav, in an interview with journalist Boria Majumdar, expresses his elation and that he feels proud that he will soon represent his country and don the blue jersey.

He further reveals how he reminisced all the toil and hard work he has done since making his domestic debut in 2010 – and after a decade-long wait, his dream of playing for his country is going to fulfil.

“I am feeling proud that I am going to represent my country in the coming month. I think I went in the flash where everything from where I started cricket, how my parents supported me, everything started playing in my mind when I got the news,” Suryakumar Yadav told Sports Today.

“And I actually came from practice, I was sitting in the room, waiting to go for a shower and that time I got the news, I was very happy. I was just sitting in one place and thinking, there were a lot of butterflies, yes,” he added.

Along with Yadav, his Mumbai Indians teammate Ishan Kishan and Rajasthan Royals all-rounder have been given also called up for the first time to the national set-up; however, as Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma are also back in the side, it remains to be seen if the new entrants get their debut caps in this series.
